APPLICATIONS
ViXS provides solutions based on variety of interfaces allowing for real-time and faster than real-time HD transcoding. These interfaces include PCI, PCI Express, Ethernet, and USB. In addition to transcoding, the XCode processor has the intelligence and power to offload critical main CPU functions or add functionality currently not possible with the main CPU. The XCode processor has been specifically designed to seamlessly interface to existing or new embedded designs.

Below are some examples of how the ViXS XCode® IC has been used in applications that require an intelligent transcoder:
CASE STUDIES

Morega QewStation

The QewStation is a new kind of network connected media device. It offers the ability to stream, side-load or place-shift content from multiple digital video sources to a wide range of devices including TVs, mobile phones, PCs, media players and flash-based media.
The QewStation repurposes video format, resolution and bit rate based on the target device while maintaining high video quality, all without the need for a PC. QewPlayers are media clients for mobile devices and PCs, enabling remote play-back and QoS optimized streaming of content from QewStations. QewPlayers are currently being developed for popular mobile platforms

The ViXS Xcode processor provides the QewStation a single IC for self booting, running an OS and providing processing functions such as HD transcoding, networking, Video QoS and Transcoding.

HDX MediaStick

The HDX MediaStick™ reference design is an USB solution, which converts multiple video formats and transforms them to allow playback on a wide variety of end devices such as smart phones and mobile devices.  By utilizing the robust media processing, flexible security and SoC functions of the recently announced XCode® 4105, HDX MediaStick can easily provide

manufacturers value add features without the need for any extra processing power from the main design. It also enables manufacturers the ability to take advantage of the powerful 1250 DMIPS application processor to offload existing critical CPU intensive tasks to the HDX MediaStick™ design or add user expanding features such DLNA, Place Shifting, and Time Shifting without burdening any precious processing power.

As a result the HDX MediaStick USB reference design provides a simple add-in device which can convert and stream multimedia content on the fly to a variety of formats necessary to facilitate a wide range of end displays without burdening the existing processing power of the overall design.
