ViXS® XCode® 3000 Series Provide Mobile Phone Video Support in Sharp’s Latest Blu-Ray PVR/Recorders

Latest Docomo and SoftBank mobile phones link to Sharp AQUOS Blu-Ray PVR/Recorders

Toronto, CANADA – September 11, 2009. ViXS Systems Inc., the leader in highly innovative and advanced networked multimedia solutions, announced today that Sharp’s latest Blu-Ray Disc (BD) PVR/recorder products: BD-HDW40, BD-HDW35, and BD-HDW32 have taken advantage of the video processing flexibility of the XCode® 3000 series to enable broadcast video conversion for mobile phone support. The XCode® 3000 Series converts live or recorded HD MPEG2 broadcast video to a MPEG4 AVC baseline video format up to a 640x360 resolution at 30 frames per second to allow video playback on eight mobile phone models: docomo PRO series™ SH-07A, docomo PRIME series™ SH-06A, SH-06A NERV, docomo STYLE series™ SH-05A, SoftBank 933SH, SoftBank 934SH, SoftBank 935SH, and SoftBank 936SH. 

The Sharp mobile phones, which have been recently released by Docomo and SoftBank in Japan, can be connected to the Sharp AQUOS BD PVR/recorders to allow broadcast content download and playback. The Sharp AQUOS BD PVR/recorder connects directly to the Sharp mobile phones via USB and provides a simple menu system to allow an instant or preset timed transfer of live or recorded video content to the phone. 

The XCode® 3000 Series is the world’s most advanced HD MPEG4 AVC (MPEG4 Part 10/H.264) Transcoder/Encoder/ Decoder System on a Chip (SoC) and is currently being used by numerous consumer electronics (CE), Set Top Box (STB), PC and broadcast equipment manufacturers. The XCode® 3000 Series is targeted for applications such as BD PVR/recorders, Cable STBs, IPTV STBs, PVRs, Place-shifting devices, Digital Televisions, Home Media Gateways and Home Network Attached Storage devices.
